Where we are
We are located in the far north of New Zealand's North Island. Aloe Aloe Gardens is on high ground on the outskirts of Kaitaia and looks across to Shipwreck Bay and the giant sand dunes of the west coast. Check out the activities and attractions in our area.
How to get here
There are four daily return flights from Auckland to Kerikeri Airport (about one hour drive away) operated by Air New Zealand Link. There are also daily return commuter flights from Auckland to Kaitaia Airport (about 15 minutes drive) operated by Barrier Air. Rental cars are available at both airports.
There is a daily bus service - operated by Intercity / Northliner - from Auckland to Kaitaia.
Travelling here by car by the direct route using State Highway 1 or State Highway 10, the journey time from Auckland airport is about five hours without stops. Travelling the Twin Coast Discovery Highway - a world-class touring route leaving from, and returning to, Auckland - requires at least two days in each direction to visit the many interesting and beautiful attractions along the way.
You can follow State Highway 1 north from Auckland direct to Kaitaia. At the southern entrance to Kaitaia, turn left on to Redan Road (signposted to Ahipara) and after approximately one kilometre turn left again into Norman Senn Avenue which becomes Okahu Road (look out for our signposts). Okahu Downs Drive is on the right just before the meteorological station and you will see Aloe Aloe Gardens on the right.
Coming from the Hokianga, Ahipara and Ninety Mile Beach on the Twin Coast Discovery route (Pukepoto Road), before you enter Kaitaia you can turn right into Okahu Road by the Okahu Vineyard. Okahu Downs Drive is then the first turn left after the meteorological station. Or you can continue on Pukepoto Road and turn right into Norman Senn Avenue.
